Reflections on Fatherhood

Fathers are our real life superheroes in a true sense. All they want is a secured future for their family and they do not even think twice about working hard in order to shape a beautiful life for their kids and family.

Yes, a father loves his children with all his heart. From giving the best gifts on birthdays to teaching them how to ride a bicycle, they do it all with a big smile on their faces. Even if they are not well, have deadlines to be met or life is not being so kind to them, they will never make us feel any hardship.

They choose to take the burdens of life and gift their kids with only joy. Every child is a prince or princess to their father whom they promise to guard till their very last breath. So, let’s thank the most amazing man in our lives on this special occasion of Father’s Day.

Being the only child in the family, I am always my dad’s darling. Even today, he treats me like a little girl, he has always been my role model and I always wanted to grow up and be just like him.

My most vivid memory of my dad was when I was seven and we were returning from our holidays where we had travelled to my grandparents for a couple weeks during the school break. But something happened on our way home that made me realize that how wonderful my dad is and I started respecting him even more.

On our way back home, I was feeling very tired so I laid down on the backseat of our car, wrapping my arms around my favourite toy and fell asleep while listening to my parents who were in deep in converssation while listening to their favourite music when our car came to a sudden stop.

“It’s okay, honey! There is nothing wrong, go back to sleep” said my mother with a vague smile.

I looked out of the window and saw a car which unfortunately had run into a ditch on the side of the road and my dad running towards it.

A family was travelling home when their brakes failed and they met that terrifying accident. They weren’t seriously injured but my dad had a little first aid training so while he waited for the emergency services to arrive he stayed with the family ensuring their safety and keeping them calm. After the police and ambulance had attended the scene and acquired all information from my dad he quietly returned to our car and we resumed our journey. An unassuming man which seeks no praise.

There are many such instances such as the above which proved to me what a great man my dad is. I remember him supplying food to one of our neighbours for a few months as they were going through a difficult time, our neighbour got on his feet but he always thankful to my dad for the kindness he showed his family when they needed it the most.

He practices whatever he preaches.
My father’s numerous courageous and kind acts have left a lasting impression on me and it is through his thoughtfulness and kindness not just to his own family but to those that he has helped in times of need that I have become the person I am today. Even now after so many years when I think about all these moments, I feel so proud to be my father’s daughter.

I may have fallen in love with Superman, Spiderman, Batman and maybe even Brad Pitt and let’s not forget Chris Hemsworth but “Dad, you will always be my own real life superhero”.

Fathers give us everything and always do their best to help us develop into best person we can be. I have learned a lot from him. He is my backbone, the pillar that strengthens my family and I love him immensely. So, this father’s day let us thank our fathers and work hard to make them proud. Happy Father’s Day!
